Q: Can I request a particular coach? To play with a friend?
A:   No, because of all the factors that have to be managed and balanced in team assignments for over 500 kids, AYSO cannot honor requests to play with a specific coach or other player.

Q: Can I request a particular team or teammate because of carpooling concerns?
A:   No, because of all the factors that have to be managed and balanced in team assignments for over 500 kids, AYSO cannot honor requests to play with a specific coach or other player. Most AYSO parents work and have other children and other activities, so carpooling is a common concern. Carpools are usually a subject at the pre-season team parents' meetings, and rosters show parent contact information that enables forming carpools for your team.

Q: How do I become a Sponsor?
A: Please visit our Sponsor page to receive more information.

Q: Do I have to attend a walk-in registration, if I register on-line?
A: Yes, because we require a “wet” signature on the registration form, we must obtain your signature.

A: This depends on their age as of the first practice of the year. Remember that our divisions are as follows:
Under 6 Ages 4 and 5
Under 8 Ages 6 and 7
Under 10 Ages 8 and 9
Under 12 Ages 10 and 11

A: No jewelry of any kind is allowed – necklaces, watches, rings, earringsetc. must be removed for practices and games. Referees inspect all players before each game for complete uniform and any jewelry or items that could be dangerous to the play of the game. If your child is preparing to get their ears pierced, you may consider waiting until the end of the season.

If you would like a refund, include that as well. A request to refund a player's registration fee must be made in writing and received before August 13, 2010 for all divisions. Refunds are issued late in the fall. Requests postmarked/time stamped after August 13, 2010 will not be accepted. Due to insurance requirements, no refunds are allowed once a player has attended any practices or games. Refunds will be picked up in person.

Q: Can a player switch teams?
A: In most cases, the answer is no. However, for any player issues, please contact your Regional Registrar.

Q: How do we arrange for a practice field?
A: During the fall, AYSO has permits for the Sahuarita Park. It is on a first come first serve. You do not need a lined field to practice. For U10 and below, the focus should be on teaching proper technique vs. tactics. Therefore, a lined field is not required for practice. If there is more than one team using a lines-field, please use only half of the field for practice. Any problems please contact your Regional Coach Administrator at coachharris@netzero.com

Q: Do I need to sign up for the coaching clinics?
A: Yes. However, if you haven't signed up, we won't turn you away. By signing up for the clinic, we have a better idea on the number of instructors, teaching materials and other materials required for the course.

Q: What do I need to bring to the coaching clinics?
A: The coaching clinics consist of lecture, demonstration, and participation. You will be both indoor and outdoors. To be safe, please bring sun care, water and exercise shoes. You should be prepared for some exercise (i.e. simulation of drills).

Q: Do I need to volunteer for my child to play?
A: Remember that AYSO is an all volunteer organization.  No one is paid for what they do, not the board members, not the coaches, not the referees, and there are many ways to volunteer besides these positions.  If positions that are needed by the region go unfilled, we may not be able to field a team for every child who wishes to play.  Its up to you;  your child as well as others benefit when you do volunteer.  Besides, its fun and we try to limit most positions to just a few hours per season. Please contact your child’s coach or a Regional Board Member for more information on volunteer opportunities.

Q: What type of casts or braces, if any, may my child wear while playing?
A: No casts or splints are allowed at anytime in a game, this includes anything whose purpose is to prevent a bone or joint from moving.  No player who recently had to wear a cast or splint should not be allowed to practice or be in a game until the player has a signed release by their doctor and parents.
A brace, whose purpose is to protect a joint but allow movement, may be allowed if in the opinion of the Referee:
  • They are soft, like an Ace bandage, or
  • They are padded and
  • They have no exposed sharp edges or exposed metal ribs which might catch another player.
Soccer is a contact support.  We wish to ensure that it is safe for the players, their teammates, and their opponents.  The Referee always has the final decision.

Q: When will we be notified about what team my child is on?
A: You should hear from your child's coach 30 days after the final registration.
Q: What equipment will my child need?
A: Full uniform is provided with the annual fee. You must provide shin guards. Soccer balls for practice and soccer cleats are also strongly recommended. Note that soccer cleats are not the same as baseball cleats. Toe cleats are NOT allowed in soccer.

Q: My child is not very experienced and is concerned that he/she will stay on the bench and not be selected to play in the games.
A: AYSO policy is that every child must play at least half of the game.

Q: Where does my registration money go?
A: The registration fees, sponsor donations and fund-raising events are all needed to help run and support the Region. Each player must be registered with the National Office and a fee is collected from our Region for each player. Monies are also used to purchase player insurance, uniforms, trophies/medals, equipment, supplies, provide clinics for the volunteers, mailings, forms, repair work, referee supplies and volunteer appreciation. The registration fee alone does not cover the cost of running this organization so we appreciate your support and the support of our community businesses.

Q: Do we have to help set up the field?
A: It is the parents’ task to help set up the goal nets prior to the first game of the day and also take down and store the goal posts, nets and corner flags after the last game of the day on their playing field.  Setup or take down are for teams playing in the first or last game of the day.  Every team will have this responsibility at least once a season.

Q: When are the games played?
A: Games for all age divisions are played on Saturdays except for U-10.They are played on Friday Nights. U-17 and U-19 are also played on Wednesdays and Saturday. We will publish the game schedules in mid-late August for the Fall Season.

Q: Where are the games played?
A: All divisions are played at the Sahuarita Park located off of Sahuarita Road. Most     U-12 and up teams will travel to Tucson for games.

Q: What does AYSO insurance cover?
A: AYSO's accident insurance covers all AYSO's "registered players, coaches, referees, and other volunteers" for any injury "sustained while under adult supervision and while participating in scheduled games, tournaments, official AYSO functions, or practice sessions; and traveling as a team under adult supervision to or from scheduled games, tournaments or practice sessions.
